Items MFTA Does Not Accept

In order for us to maintain a safe environment for our staff and all the visitors that come through our warehouse seeking free materials we require that all of the materials donated to us are clean and in immediately reusable condition requiring no repair.  Pick-ups require a minimum of 250 pounds of acceptable donation or $1000.00 in declared value with elevator service to the ground level that we can access between the hours of 9:00a and 3:00p on weekdaysPlease remember that even if your items meet these requirements, the final decision for accepting donations into the warehouse is at the discretion of MFTA Staff.

While our goal is to keep useful items from entering the waste stream we are not a salvage operation and cannot accept donations of items that our groups will not reuse.  MFTA does not accept any of the items listed below:

lead based paint, toxic chemicals, beds or bedding, food, broken glass, rusty metal, building materials that have screws, nails or glue still attached, slabs of marble, uncrated glass, rusty or broken furniture or filing cabinets.

Our groups generally come to us with their own cars or vans and in most cases are unable to take away large heavy items like pianos, refrigerators and freestanding copiers.  However through our Direct Donations system, we are able to list many items that we are unable to take into the warehouse. Those are listed below with an asterisk.

*Pianos, large appliances - stoves, refrigerators, dishwashers, washing machines, dryers - kitchen cabinetry, computer monitors without a system, older computers, metal desks, flats or large set pieces can be listed on our Direct Donations.
