Extraordinary work from some extraordinary volunteers - New York Cares Youth Services

Monday July 21, 2008

Category: MFTA in the News

Fifteen high school students from New York Cares Youth Services (through the Upward Bound Program at Vaughn College of Aeronautics and Technology) volunteered their time and effort at Materials for the Arts on Monday, July 21, 2008. This was part of a community service project that New York Cares oversees throughout the year. Accompanying these students were three chaperones from New York Cares and Vaughn College.

The project the students took on was one that would have taken days for the MFTA staff to accomplish. Willis North America, a new MFTA donor, recently donated 345 pieces of thoroughly packed framed artwork. These highly motivated high school students set to work unpacking and separating the artwork to make it more accessible to MFTA recipients for their shopping day visits. In what seemed like no time, the group unwrapped the work and then in the spirit of reuse, saved the bubble wrap and foam covering for future use. MFTA is grateful to New York Cares Youth Services and salutes these young people on their commitment to volunteer in their community.
