Volunteer Opportunities

There are a number of ways in which you can volunteer your time to help out in the Materials for the Arts Warehouse. Please check back for seasonal projects.

Shopping Days: Tuesday or Thursday, at least 2 hours, (must be 17 yrs. or older)

Get to know some of our 3,700 recipient groups while assisting staff with checking groups in and out of the warehouse.

Clean Team: Monday, Wednesday, Friday or by prior arrangement, (must be 14 yrs. or older)

Help out in the warehouse by folding and sorting fabric, wiping down furniture and shelves or organizing one of our various sections. Come with friends or join a prescheduled group team.

If you volunteer for four or more hours at a time your metro card can be reimbursed.

INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITY

Direct Donations - Fall 2008 Internship Description

We are looking for a highly motivated intern to assist with our Direct Donations operations and other upcoming projects. The intern will gain an understanding of how responsible re-use and recycling has been a foundation of support for cultural organizations and public schools that otherwise would lack these badly needed supplies. An additional benefit is the great sense of satisfaction that comes from giving back to your community.

Direct Donations Intern responsibilities:

  • Provide assistance with basic office duties: filing, maintaining document resources etc.
  • Conduct follow up calls with donors and recipients
  • Assist in the implementation of new programs for reuse within the art/theater/dance community
  • Take part in site visits to cultural organizations and other recipient members throughout New York City
  • Help to establish regular contact with the organizations within our recipient network
  • Assist in developing presentations to approach large scale donors
  • Contribute ideas for making improvements to our existing Direct Donation system

Skills Needed:

  • Highly motivated, creative, independent thinker
  • Able to handle multiple tasks
  • Familiar with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Excellent communication skills with an emphasis on good phone manner
  • Flexible schedule
  • Interest in public sector, non-profits, and arts organizations

Time Commitment:

September - December 2008. Student must be able to dedicate 15-20 hours per week.

Compensation:

This is an un-paid internship. However, Metro card reimbursement will be provided for the completion of four or more consecutive hours of work per day.
